From February 4-18, 2018 an estimated 2,000+ athletes from all corners of Michigan will compete in the Fifth Annual Meijer State Games of Michigan – Winter Games. This year Muskegon Winter Sports Complex will host the Winter Try-Athlon as a portion of the state-wide games.
This is your opportunity to try three Winter Olympic sports- luge, ice speed skating and cross country skiing. This event is family friendly and geared toward those who may have never done at least one of these sports. Of course, serious competitors are welcome as well. We recognize that many people may have very little experience in some of these sports. We will teach you everything you need to know in continuous 20 minute clinics at each venue.
|10:00 - 11:30am||Check in and registration in the lodge. (No day of race sign ups after 11:30am)|
|10:30 - 11:30am||Ski and skate clinic. (This clinic is for beginners and NOT mandatory)|
|11:30am - 2:30pm||Luge competition (The luge competition will begin with a 20 minute clinic. The clinic is mandatory for all participants)|
|Noon -2:30pm||Skating competition|
|3:00 - 4:00pm||Cross country skiing competition|
Athletes score points at each sport by placing in the top 4 places of each age group. First place receives 7 points, second receives 5 points, third receives 4 points and fourth receives 3 points. All finishers get at least one point for trying so it is important that you try all events and finish. Total points determines final placement. Awards go to the top three per age division. ***In the event of a tie in total points, the higher placement will be awarded to the participant that did better in the cross country ski portion of the triathlon.
The age divisions are as follows. Separate awards are given to males and females: 9 & under, 10-12, 13-16, 17-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+, College Team
This year we’ve included a special division for college teams. College students have the option of competing as a team of 4. Not all team members have to come from the same college but this division is for college students only. Registration is discounted to $50.
Luge– helmet, elbow pads and sled are provided
Speedskating– a limited number of true speedskates are available for free, but you may race in your own hockey or figure skates if you are more comfortable.
Cross Country Skiing– You can use your own skis or rent them at the lodge for $8
