luge

The Muskegon Junior Luge Team is a grassroots youth luge program for youth ages 8-17 years old. This program develops basic skills and race techniques for participants, it takes about 15 minutes to show a novice slider the basics. From there skills are developed by runs down the track and coaches critiqueing of individual runs.  The program is conducted every Thursday evening and at times, selected youth are eligible to travel to Lake Placid for further screening to be selected for US Luge Junior National camps and ultimately junior national team selection.

This successful youth development program produced four time Olympian and two time medalist Mark Grimmette. Mark is still competing on the US National team in Doubles Luge.

There have been several youth who have moved on to participate in the national programs. While truly an honor and exciting, it is a life changing commitment which requires years of dedication, expense, and skill development to become internationally competitive. Currently there are two youth from this program who have moved on to US Luge Junior National Development Programs.
