BRIGHT LIGHTS SUPPORT

Adopt a Light Pole

Help illuminate the Muskegon Luge Adventure Sports Park's hiking trails by adopting a light pole on the trails. As a Bright Lights Supporter, your donation helps us underwrite the operating cost of lighting and maintaining the trail system throughout the year so everyone can enjoy safe and fun hiking experiences.

Show your Support on the Trails

You can adopt a light pole on the hiking trails for $100. Pick your favorite spot on the trails to display a name placard on the light post.

A one-time $100 donation makes you a Bright Lights Supporter, represented by the silver placard. Your name placard will be displayed for 365 days.

An annual recurring donation of $100 means you're a Visionary Supporter, represented with the gold placard.

Hiking Trails Built by the Community, For the Community

The Muskegon Sports Council has a lease partnership with the Michigan DNR, allowing our organization to use approximately 300 acres of the Northwest quadrant of Muskegon State Park. As part of the partnership we help maintain and provide improvements to the trails. For nearly 40 years, donors and community organizations have assisted us with improvements to the trails such as lighting, resurfacing for accessibility, signage and more.

  • 1933-1934 Trails are designed and built by the Civilian Conservation Corps
  • 1984 Muskegon Sports Council is established and lease partnership with DNR put into place.
  • 1984-1985 Community donations and State appropriation  fund the lighted trail system.  The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers & GTE employees volunteer time to install 30+ miles of underground wiring and 200 lights.
  • 1990s - 2000s local electricians from GE Aviation help maintain the lights
  • 2009 Kellog Foundation grant provides trail resurfacing for accesibility
  • 2017 Howmet supports a complete LED light upgrade
  • 2021 Michigan Cares for Tourism volunteers install new light pole number signs
  • 2024 DNR and Run Muskegon fund new trail signage

Accessible Hiking for Everyone

Our trails are accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities.  The packed dolomite surface on the trails make it possible for wheel chairs to roll over without obstruction. Thanks to a donation to Muskegon State Park from Kali's Cure for Paralysis Foundation, Inc., we can provide an all-terrain track chair that allows people to hike and explore in the snow, sand or trails. Our modified UTV has a pull-down ramp and wheel chair tie-downs and can be used to transport people in wheel chairs to the top of our luge and zip line dune.
